4 - Requesting Access to a Workspace or Joining Slack for the First Time

When requesting access to a workspace or joining Slack for the first time:

  • You must use your full, formal canonical Dartmouth email (usually firstname.m.lastname@dartmouth.edu). You can find yours or another student's full email by putting in a person's name or NetID into https://lookup.dartmouth.edu.

  • Always use the "@dartmouth.edu" domain at the end of your email address when requesting access to a workspace or joining Slack for the first time (i.e. not tuck.dartmouth.edu or anything else).

  • DO NOT use an email alias (i.e. jayda@dartmouth.edu) or NetID (i.e. d12345p@dartmouth.edu) when requesting access to a workspace or joining Slack for the first time.

When inviting people to your Slack Workspace:

  • Use ONLY the full, formal canonical email address format: "firstname.m.lastname@dartmouth.edu".

    • For Faculty: A convenient place to find a list of students in your course is your class roster in Banner.

  • Always use the "@dartmouth.edu" domain at the end of the email address (i.e. not tuck.dartmouth.edu or anything else).

  • DO NOT invite someone using his/her email alias (i.e. jayda@dartmouth.edu) or NetID (i.e. d12345p@dartmouth.edu).

  • To find a person's full, formal canonical name format, go to https://lookup.dartmouth.edu/

  • When inviting anyone outside of Dartmouth to your Dartmouth Slack workspace, invite them as single-channel guests (not members) as they won't otherwise be able to authenticate and log into Slack through Duo (SSO) without a Dartmouth email.
