Step-by-Step
This application is KeyServed and requires KeyAccess be installed on your computer, as well as a connection to the Dartmouth network each time you run Stata. If not on campus, you will need to establish a VPN connection. The current version is Stata 18. Older versions of the installer are still recognized by the KeyServer, and available on the Stata downloads page. Versions prior to 18 might require a separate update to KeyAccess on MacOS 11 and later. For assistance with installation on older MacOS, send mail to Research.Computing
Stata 18:
- Download Stata 18 for Mac OS. This is a Dartmouth-customized installer for both Stata 18 and KeyAccess . Stata is dual-architecture (Intel x86_64 and Arm64)
- In the Finder, Control+Click (or right-click) on the Stata18.pkg file and select Open, then select Open again from the 'Unidentified Developer pop-up. This installer will install or update, as needed, the KeyAccess client. Then it will install Stata/SE with a Dartmouth license key; no further registration is needed. Do not try to install directly by clicking on the file in the browser download bar.
- If you do not have the option to Open, then open System Preferences, then the Privacy and Security tab. Scroll to the bottom and you will see that "Stata8.pkg" was blocked, and an option to Open Anyway. Select Open Anyway, and the pkg file will reopen in the installer. This time you'll get an Open Anyway option, and you need to enter your local Mac admin password (no fingerprints allowed here), and finally it starts the installer (after yet another password check).
- The application will be found in Applications/Stata/. Run the StataSE application. You should see the KeyAccess splash screen, and also a notification that you should check for updates. Follow the instructions to update Stata. It will download new components from stata.com and then restart itself. The updated program will still be managed by KeyAccess. If this is the first application you have installed with KeyAccess, a reboot will be needed before KeyAccess is active.
