IDL for Macintosh

Step-by-Step

This application uses a network license manager and requires a connection to the Dartmouth network each time you run IDL.

IDL 8.3

(This installer includes ENVI, which most users need not select for installation.

1. Download IDL 8.3 for Macintosh, as well as the license file. (You made need to right-click the license file link to download it)
   • On Macintosh OS X 10.8 or later, you will also need to download and install XQuartz.
2. Double click Install_IDL83ENVI51.pkg to start the installation process.
3. Click Continue, accept the EULA and click Continue.
4. Click Install for all users of this computer, click Continue, and click Continue again.
5. After installation is complete, copy the downloaded license-client.lic file to Applications/exelis/license.
6. Double click IDL83 in the exelis folder, and you should be able to use IDL.
7. You may be prompted to install Java6 for OSX.  If so, follow the prompts.

IDL 8.2

1. Download IDL 8.3 for Macintosh, as well as the license file. (You made need to right-click the license file link to download it)

2. Double click InstallIDL82.pkg to start the installation process.
3. Click Continue, accept the EULA and click Continue.
4. Click Install for all users of this computer, click Continue, and click Continue again.

6. Double click IDL82 in the exelis folder, and you should be able to use IDL.
7. You may be prompted to install Java6 for OSX.  If so, follow the prompts.
