Outlook for Mac Crashes When Maximized or Closed

Tags Zoom plugin

Issue

Outlook crashes when the window is maximized or closed.

Environment

This article applies to Macs running macOS Catalina 10.15.x

Cause

MacOS Catalina does not support plugins, including the Zoom Outlook Plugin.

Resolution

Uninstalling the plugin will stop the crashes from occurring. To keep the functionality of the Zoom Plugin, Office 365 users can install the Zoom Add-In.

Uninstall the Zoom Plugin

  1. Go to your applications in Finder.
  2. Enter the folder labeled ZoomOutlookPlugin.

  1. Double-click Uninstall and enter your computer’s password.

Install the Zoom Add-In

  1. Under the Home tab in Outlook, click on Get Add-Ins at the top right of the ribbon menu.

  1. Search for “Zoom for Outlook”.
  2. Add the Add-In.

  1. The new Add-In should appear when you create or open a calendar event.

  1. Before you can use the Add-In, you will need to sign in. Click on the Settings icon and select Sign in with SSO at the bottom.

  1. Enter Dartmouth in the text field, so that it reads Dartmouth.zoom.us. Click Continue.

  1. Log in with your Dartmouth NetID and password, and check the box to "Remember me for 30 days". Then, authenticate with Duo.
