Reclaiming Inactive Licenses

Tags Zoom solution

Information, Technology and Consulting (ITC) routinely monitors our solutions to ensure we stay within our allotted license limits. Periodically, ITC may reclaim user licenses based on criteria specific to the solution, which could include last login date, usage, etc.

As an example:

A Zoom license can be reclaimed by converting a Pro license to a Basic license. If an affected user needs their Pro license again in the future, the steps to restore the license are to log into the web portal or the desktop client using SSO, following the steps in this KB.  Thereafter, full license features will be active again.

A user's license type is identified in their Profile page.  'Licensed' denotes a Pro license and 'Basic' denotes a Basic license.

Notes regarding Basic licenses:

  • Users can record locally but cloud recording is turned off.  (Previous cloud recordings will remain in Panopto, our long-term video storage platform.)
  • Users can host meetings with up to 100 participants, but their meetings are limited to 40-minutes.
