Dell 7430 Touchpad Stops Working

Issue

Certain Dell models experience the following touchpad issues:

  • Touchpad stops working after a warm boot (Wake from sleep or restart).
  • Touchpad stops working after you use it for about an hour.
  • Touchpad stops working after a few minutes, when disconnected from AC power.

Environment

** Windows operating system

This issue is primarily seen on

        Latitude 7430

But could also be seen on

        Latitude 5430

        Latitude 5431

        Precision 3470

Resolution

** Dell released a Touchpad Firmware update to resolve this issue. A restart is required after installing this update.

The update has been published in the Dartmouth Software Center. To run this update, do the following:
(If you do not have the Dartmouth Software Center, see the Dell online reference link below for manual installation instructions)

  1. Open Dartmouth Software Center from the Start Menu
  2. Locate 7430 Touchpad Firmware Update in Software Center and click it
  3. Read the on-screen notes and then click Install to run the update.
  4. Once install is finished, save, and close your work, then click the Restart button.
      
  5. Click Restart again to confirm restart.
