PBCS Login and Smart View setup - Mac

This article is intended for people who would like to access PBCS on their Mac computer using the Excel application installed on their computer. 

Add Smart View to your Excel for Mac

Follow these steps to sideload the Smart View add-in on locally installed version of Excel. 

  1. Download the file attached to this Knowledge Article. 
  2. Decompress the file
  3. Make sure Excel is closed
  4.  Click on the Finder in your dock.
  5. Open the Go menu in your top menu bar and select Go To Folder. Or press Shift + Command + G.
  6. Enter this file path: /Users/(enter your username here)/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Excel/Data/Documents/
    • If you elect to navigate to the folder by opening each folder, just keep in mind that newer versions of macOS may list the com.microsoft.Excel as Microsoft Excel
  7. Place the decompressed SV_MAC.xml file in a folder called wef.
    • If you do not have a folder called wef at this location. You can create a folder and rename it. 
  8. Open Excel and a blank workbook.
  9. In the Ribbon under Insert section, select the arrow next to My Add-ins, and select Smart View.
  10. This will add a new section to your Ribbon called, Smart View. Open the Smart View section and select Home.
  11. This will open a side bar. Select Company Sign and you will be prompted to sign in using your NetID, Password, and Duo. 
  12. If you have problems use the add-in, you may need to clear your Office Cache and try running it again.

 

Clearing your Excel Cache on a Mac

If you are experiencing issues with your Office 365 add-ins on your Mac, most issues can be resolved by clearing the cache of that specific application. 

  • Delete the contents of the following folder(s). Confirm that you are at the correct folder path before deleting anything. You can damage your Office 365 installation be deleting the infocorrect files. 
    • ~/Library/Containers/com.Microsoft.OsfWebHost/Data/
      • If the folder from above does not exist, check if you have any of the following folders and delete their contents. 
        • ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.excel/Data/Library/Caches/
        • ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.excel//Data/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/16.0/Wef/
        • ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Office365ServiceV2/Data/Caches/com.microsoft.Office365ServiceV2/
        • ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Office365ServiceV2/Data/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.Office365ServiceV2/

If you continue to have problems using the Smart View add-on, you may want to consider uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of Microsoft Office 365 from o365.dartmouth.edu
