Safari is not Responding to Mouse Clicks

When Safari opens, it won't respond to mouse clicks. Several functions in the Safari menu are also grayed out - i.e. Preferences, Quit, etc.

Steps to take to fix this issue:

  1. Run all Mac OS updates.
  2. Shut down your computer.
  3. Restart while holding the Command and R keys to start in Recovery Mode. Note that you only need to hold down both keys until you see the Apple logo displayed.
  4. Once in recovery mode, click Disk Utility then click Continue.
  5. When the Disk Utility menu opens, click the computer's hard drive. It's located on the left side of the window, under the "Internal" heading.
  6. Click the First Aid icon. If prompted, click Run to run the utility.
  7. It will take a few minutes to complete. When First Aid completes, it will indicate the status of the hard drive. If you see a message that the drive appears to be okay, click Done and restart your computer.
    1. If you receive a message that there are problems, please contact the IT Support Desk at 6-2999 or email help with the information contained in the utility window.
  8. Restart your computer.
  9. Open Safari and test that Safari functions as normal.
