Canvas: Request an Org Site

The Learning Design and Innovation team can manually create organizational (org) sites in Canvas. These sites are typically requested by groups or departments at Dartmouth who provide training or administer extra- and co-curricular programs that have explicit teaching and learning objectives. If you are interested in having a site created for you, please read the following overview and provide the information requested.

Guiding Principles

  • Org sites created in Canvas will have a teaching and learning focus.
  • Learning Design and Innovation will offer Canvas as a tool for org sites in a self-service capacity.
  • Entities provided with a Canvas org site will assume primary responsibility for it.

Canvas org site owners will:

  • manage the site after initial set up and design assistance has been provided.
  • utilize 24/7 Canvas Help resources available through the Canvas homepage.
  • enroll, modify user information, and un-enroll users.
  • support users (i.e. serve as the point person for Canvas questions)
  • use the site for the purpose for which it was approved.
  • transfer responsibility of the site to another person if an owner leaves the college and notify Educational Technologies of these changes

Learning Design and Innovation will:

  • provide initial set up and design assistance for Canvas org sites.
  • reserve the right to deactivate org sites that have been dormant for one year.
