GlobalProtect VPN Portals

Overview

The GlobalProtect VPN client from Palo Alto Networks can be used to connect to the Dartmouth network and provides access to campus resources as if you were on the internal Dartmouth network.  You will need to install the GlobalProtect client on your computers.  Here are detailed instruction on installing the client.

Once the client is installed there are different VPN portals for different purposes that you can connect to.  Most users should connect to vpn.dartmouth.edu.
VPN Portal Use
vpn.dartmouth.edu General VPN use.
vpn-split.dartmouth.edu Only traffic to Dartmouth is sent across the VPN connection.  Traffic to non-Dartmouth sites will use your existing network connection.  This is especially useful if you on a different organizational network (like DHMC) and need to be able to access internal resources there.  Alternatively, this is a good option if most of your traffic is to the internet for mail, video conferencing and other websites, and you only need to use a few resources on the Dartmouth campus.  This option will generally give you better performance for latency-sensitive applications like video conferencing.
vpn-linux.dartmouth.edu General VPN use is you are running a Linux-based operating system.
