The Dean of Faculty provides computers for lecturers/senior lecturers on a case by case basis. In general, the lecturer/senior lecturer needs to be someone who’s permanent – they teach for their departments year after year and usually have an office and have Dartmouth equipment already. Their existing computer needs to be four years old (or older) in order to qualify. Chris Strenta approves the purchase based on the above information.
There’s no form to fill out as there is for tenure/tenure-track faculty. See the standard offerings below. Departments may elect to add RAM or a larger hard drive by providing a chart string to address the price difference when the computer is ordered. Also, if the faculty wants a different computer vs. what’s offered, the dean of faculty (again on a case by case basis) will provide the money they would have spent on the computer and the department pays the difference.
To get the computer approved and then ordered, first contact Chris Strenta to make sure that they qualify. Since we’re advocating for the lecturer/senior lecturer so they can receive a new computer, I do let Chris know about their current computer, its age, if it’s having hardware issues, if there are issues impacting their ability to get their work done, etc. Once Chris approves, the order is placed with Karyn Scheiner in the Arts & Sciences Finance Center.
