How to Determine the Operating System on a Mac and its serial number

To determine the operating system of your Mac OS X computer

  • Click the Apple menu.
  • Click the first item About This Mac (it could also be About This Computer if it's an older computer).
  • In the new window, click the Overview tab which gives you information on your Mac's operating system. The Overview tab also gives information on
    • The make and model of your computer (i.e. iMac 27 inch, late 2015)
    • Processor
    • Memory
    • Graphics card
    • Serial number
