To access a service that requires two-factor authentication using Duo, you can self-enroll in Duo following the steps below.
Note: it is recommended that you register more than one device with your Duo account (example: Mobile phone, Landline, DUO Token, Office phone)
Step-by-Step
- Go to https://2faenroll.dartmouth.edu/
- Enter your Dartmouth NetID and Password
- Choose Start Setup
- Select the type of device you want to enroll with Duo (Mobile phone - Recommended, Tablet, or Landline) and click Continue.
- Next, select your country and enter the phone number of the smartphone, landline, or cell phone that you'll have with you when you're logging in to a system that requires Duo authentication. You can enter an extension if you chose Landline in the previous step.
- Next you will need to verify ownership of device. If you chose the Landline option, Duo will call your number to give you a verification code. If you chose a mobile number, Duo can call you or send a text message with the verification code.
- Once ownership has been verified, and if you chose to use a mobile phone, you will have the option to set up and use the Duo Mobile app to acknowledge the 2-factor authentication. The Duo Mobile app is recommended, but not required.
- Choose the Activate Duo Mobile button on the screen under your mobile device phone number.
- Next Choose what type of mobile device you have.
Install Duo Mobile
Duo Mobile is an application that runs on your phone and helps you authenticate. Without it you'll still be able to log in using a phone call or text message, but Duo strongly recommends that you use Duo Mobile to authenticate quickly and easily.
- Follow the platform-specific instructions on the screen to install Duo Mobile. Then choose the I have Duo Mobile installed button.
Activate Duo Mobile
Activating the app will link it to your account so you can use it for authentication.
- On iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, activate Duo Mobile by scanning the barcode with the app's built-in barcode scanner. Choose your platform for specific instructions:
- The "Continue" button is clickable after you scan the barcode.
