All versions of Windows should be upgraded to Windows 11 version 24H2.
The Windows 11 upgrade is available in the Dartmouth Software Center for the following versions of Windows:
- Windows 10 2004 and later
- Windows 11 23H2 and earlier
The upgrade process will take some time to complete. Please save your work and close all applications before starting the upgrade.
To start the upgrade:
- Open the Dartmouth Software Center
- Click Operating Systems
- Click Upgrade to Windows 11 24H2
- Click Install
- Read the confirmation message and click Install to begin the upgrade. (click Cancel if you wish to not start the upgrade)
- The upgrade will check to determine if the device meets Windows 11 requirements. Windows 11 requirements can be found here.
- If any of the requirements are not met, the process will stop and display a message indicating that. Click the expand button to display which requirements were not met. These requirements must be addressed before the upgrade can be started again.
- If all requirements are met, the upgrade will begin.
- At this point there will be no other interaction required.
- A progress window will appear shortly and continue to display until the first reboot.
- You will see Windows do some additional setup processes and may reboot a couple of times. This is normal.
- Once back at the login screen, login normally.
- Once Windows does some final setup steps, you should be back at your desktop.
- The upgrade is now complete.
* Please Note: Devices running Windows 10 1909 and earlier will need to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10 (22H2) before being able to upgrade to Windows 11. Windows 10 1909 and earlier should see an upgrade option in the Dartmouth Software Center, under Operating Systems, to upgrade these devices to Windows 10 22H2. A short period of time after it has been upgraded to 22H2, the Operating Systems section should be updated to display the Upgrade to Windows 11 24H2. You can then follow the process outlined above.
** After upgrading to Windows 11, and after logging in, some may experience a blank screen with just the mouse curser. In this case press Ctrl-Alt-Del and perform a restart or launch the Task Manager and select ‘Run new task’. In the ‘Create new task’ window, enter ‘Explorer’ in the Open field and click OK.
*** Other options to manually upgrade to Windows 11 can be found here.
