On June 14 at 9am, Dropbox updated the file system for everyone in our enterprise account.
This Knowledge Base Article covers the following topics:
What does this mean?
The file system now includes a personal folder for every user in our Dropbox account.
Was I affected?
Every Dropbox user experienced at least a small impact.
Are there known issues resulting from this update?
There are a couple of specific things that you may want to check that are not explicitly mentioned in the pre and post migration checklist provided by Dropbox.
- If you use Dropbox Backup, you should check that the folders you chose to be backed up are still selected. If not, check the boxes for the folders you'd like to back up.
- Your main Dropbox folder has been renamed. This is not so much an issue as something to be aware of.
- The old folder was called "Dropbox (Dartmouth College)". This folder appears as though it still exists, but it is hidden and is not shown unless you are showing hidden files and folders in your file directory browser. This folder is an alias and its purpose is to make things like recent files work in applications if they still have the old path. The size should be a reflection of the destination, but it isn’t a duplicate and won’t take up any space.
- The new folder is called "Dartmouth College Dropbox". This is the go-forward folder.
