How to Report a Scam Involving Loss:

If you have responded to an email, phone call, or message and have given money, funds, personal identification (ID, Passport Info, Address, Social Security Number, ect.) please contact Dartmouth Safety and Security. This is also true for any threats, or threats of harm. They will Involve Dartmouth Information Security if required.

Steps to Follow:

  • Contact Safety and Security at (603) 646-4000 https://www.dartmouth.edu/security/ or go to the Safety and Security offices at 5 Rope Ferry Road, Second Floor. They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Safety and Security will work with the Information Security team on mitigation measures if applicable. 

  • Safety and Security will also assist you in working with Hanover PD when applicable. 

Helpful Information When Reporting Loss Due to a Scam:

  • Time and Date of the incident. 

  • A copy of the original email and all of your correspondence. A copy of messages / text messages if acceptable. 

  • Description of loss, money, personal information.

  • Entity / person who the communication is pretending to be.

  • Steps you have already taken to resolve loss, what institutions you need help working with.

How to Report a Scam Not Involving Loss:

If you have come across a phishing or spoofing email and have not responded or interacted with it, please contact Information Security to report the scam so it can be evaluated and neutralized. 

Steps to Follow:

  • Follow the outlined Phishing Reporting Procedure

  • This procedure will have you forward the original email to phishing@dartmouth.edu

  • If you feel that the message / email is from a Dartmouth employee of significant influence, or you have extra questions that need to be addressed. Please forward a copy of the original email and your questions to information.security@dartmouth.edu

  • If ever in doubt of what to do, email information.security@dartmouth.edu

Helpful Information:

  • If you are submitting a question or concern along with your phishing email please also submit a ticket to Information Security at information.security@dartmouth.edu 

  • All other phishing reports can go to phishing@dartmouth.edu
