What is Zoom Room?
Zoom Room helps bridge the remote and in-person work experience by providing an easy way to start and run a Zoom meeting from a conference room system. Schedule the meeting ahead of time and start it from the room with one button press or create a new meeting on the fly and invite colleagues through the Zoom Room touch panel. Zoom Rooms also provides the ability to share presentation content wirelessly from a laptop or mobile device to the room display inside or outside a Zoom meeting.
Zoom Room vs Zoom Capable Room
Zoom Room is a product offered by Zoom that includes dedicated hardware to run Zoom meetings in a conference room without the meeting host needing to bring their laptop and connect it to the audiovisual system. A touch screen tablet is used for meeting controls and managing participants in the meeting.
A Zoom (or video conferencing) capable room includes connections from the camera, microphone, speakers, and display to connect to the meeting host's laptop through a USB cable. The host will need to modify their computer and Zoom settings to use the room microphone, camera, and speakers.
The Technology
Zoom Room is an application that runs on a dedicated computer. The computer acts as a central hub for the camera, microphone, speakers, and display to be plugged into. Since the computer is dedicated to the room, no one needs to bring a laptop to connect for the Zoom meeting. Adapters, cables, Zoom settings are no longer needed since the dedicated computer does all of that for you.
Scheduling
The Zoom Room can be configured to sync with an Office 365 Calendar to make scheduling the room and linking a meeting a one step process. When a meeting is scheduled ahead of time, the meeting occurrence will appear on the room display and touch panel. The scheduled meeting can be started with one tap of a button.
