No Jobs Printing
Question: I have pressed print on my computer but the job is not showing-up in the printer's queue. What is going wrong?
- Ensure you are connected to Eduroam. You need to be on the Eduroam network to print.
- Is the job releasing/disappearing from your local print queue? You will need to wait for this job to clear this queue before it shows up in the printer's queue (on the user interface of the printer, itself). This process, depending on the size and resolution of the print job, can take anywhere between a few seconds to several minutes. Please be patient.
►
- If you are seeing "Hold for Authentication," please see the section regarding this error.
Question: I have sent the job to the printer but nothing is printing after I release it from the printer. What is going wrong?
- Are the three blue lights lighting up after you release the job from the printer? The three blue lights mean the job is loading and the machine is spooling-up.
- Are you waiting long enough for the job to print? After the three blue lights start flashing, depending on how large or high resolution your print job is, this loading process can take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. Please be patient and give the job time to complete.
- Is the job in the right format or paper size? We are currently only accepting jobs printed in U.S. Letter (8.5x11) paper size.
- Does your document have more than 150 pages? We can only process print jobs of 150 pages or less.
Formatting/Paper Size
Question: What is the proper paper size I should be printing?
Currently, our printers are only accepting U.S. Letter (8.5x11) paper size. All other paper sizes will not print. When you attempt to print in a different paper size, you will receive an email notifying you of this error. Be on the look-out for an email if your job fails to print.
Question: What formats can we print?
- You can print in most formats via the print driver (.pdf, .doc, .docx, .exe, .ppt, .txt, etc.).
- You can also print in most formats via the Email to Print feautre (by emailing your print jobs to greenprint@dartmouth.edu).
- If you are attempting to print via the WebPrint option (found at greenprint.dartmouth.edu), we are currently only able to accept .pdf as well as some image files (you can see the acceptable formats when you are in the process of uploading your docuement to WebPrint).
Question: Is there a page limit for pages in a single print job?
Yes. Our current page limit for a single print job is 150 pages. Jobs that have a higher page number than 150 will fail to print.
GreenPrint Funds & Refunds
Question: How do I submit a GreenPrint Refund Request?
- Navigate to greenprint.dartmouth.edu
- Sign in with your Dartmouth credentials
- Click on "Recent Print Jobs"
- Find the job in which you would like to be refunded and click "Request Refund" (on the right side of the job)
- Fill out the appropriate fields
- Hit send to submit
Question: How much GreenPrint fund are we provided each term?
Color Printing
Question: How do I print in color?
- Make sure you are not toggling on "Black & White" or "Grayscale" in the printer settings menu
- Ensure you are trying to release the print job at a color printer
- There are three color printers on-campus for student use, there locations are as follows:
- Sherman Art Library (down the ally next to the Circulation Desk)
- Lower Level Carson (below the ground floor, in front of the lecture hall)
- Black Family Visual Arts Center (adjacent from the elevator)
Question: Will I be charged for color if I print a color document at a Black & White station?
No. All jobs should be set as "color" in the printer options menu on your computer when you go to print. As long as you release a job at a Black & White station, you will only be charged for Black & White
Question: Will I be charged for Black & White at a color station if I change the settings in the printer options menu?
Yes. Do not release your print job at a color printer unless you would like to print the job in color. You will be charged for color regardless if the job is toggled in Black & White or grayscale in the printer options menu.
Mac Specific Issues
Question: Why does my print job say "Hold for Authentication" in my computer's local print queue?
This means you have entered your Dartmouth credentials incorrectly. When you attempt to print, you will be prompted for your Dartmouth credentials. On Macs, the "username" field will be auto-populated with your local profile username. This should be deleted and replaced with your NetID. In the "password" field, enter your Dartmouth associated password. If you would like, you can also toggle-on the "remember" option once you enter your NetID and Dartmouth password.
Question: My print job say “Hold for Authentication” but I am not prompted for credentials after sending the job to the GreenPrint - PC Printer. How do I fix this?
- Open the KeyChain Access app (spotlight search may be easiest way to find this, hit command and space-bar to bring up the search and type in: “keychain access”).
- Search for "GreenPrint" in KeyChain access search field.
- Account should be your NetID, and your password should be your Dartmouth Password. Edit the fields as necessary.
- Hit "Save Changes" to save the edits.
- When you print again, you should not see "Hold for Authentication" in your local print queue.
