ITC will be updating Dartmouth Zoom usernames to lowercase format. E.g. F001ABC@dartmouth.edu will be converted to f001abc@dartmouth.edu
Why?
This change is crucial for improving compatibility and interoperability with various other campus systems and integrations. Zoom has a few integrations that require username casing to match or it will not work. We've found that some newer integrations make this a requirement. In order to be prepared for the future, we are proactively making this change.
What you need to know
- Users affected: This only applies to the people who receive a direct email regarding the change. The email will come from ITC@dartmouth.edu.
- Username transformation: Your current Zoom username, which is currently displayed in all capital letters(e.g. F001ABC@dartmouth.edu), will be systematically updated to a lowercase format(e.g. f001abc@dartmouth.edu).
- Zoom app sign out: A side effect of the change is that you will be signed out of your Zoom app(s) during the change to the temp username. This will not kick you out of any meetings you may be in at the time on your computer or mobile devices.
The process will happen within minutes:
- You'll receive an email about the upcoming change. This will include a start date and time.
- At the start date and time, we will batch update usernames. The process to update all of them should take less than 5 minutes. Each individual will be updated within seconds.
- Your email will be changed to temp@dartmouth.edu
- Your Zoom app(s)(computer and mobile) will sign you out. You will likely see a pop up that you have been signed out of your Zoom app.
- If you are in any meeting at the time, you will be able to finish the meeting. It will not kick you out of any meetings you are already in.
- You will receive a notifications from Zoom about the name change from no-reply@zoom.us.

- If you are in any Zoom meetings or have the Zoom app open, you will see a notification similar to this.

- Your email will be changed to the all lowercase version of netid@dartmouth.edu.
- You may receive another notification about the change back. During our testing, we have found that when the second change happens shortly after the first, you don't usually receive an email.
- Your account is ready to be used again.
If you need to avoid any distractions at this time, please reschedule your username change to another date.
What action will I need to take?
After the process is complete, you will need to sign back into Zoom on all your devices.
dartmouth.zoom.us is our Zoom domain.
If you are prompted, enter: dartmouth
Computer
On a computer you should be able to simply click SSO button on the Zoom app sign in and it will quickly reconnect your account if you have already have an active Dartmouth SSO session on your primary browser. Otherwise you need to complete a NetID and password SSO login.

Mobile/Tablet
For mobile and tablet devices, please follow the prompts to sign in using SSO, usually labeled as "Continue with SSO" and use your NetID and password to complete the login.
If you are in a call queue or use specialized forwarding/ringing sequence, we strongly encourage testing a call after you sign back in again.
Physical Zoom Phones
Physical Zoom phones do not need any additional action. They should continue to work as normal throughout the process.
