CrashPlan - device stuck synchronizing - has not completed

Details

The CrashPlan app stores information about your file selection and the progress of your backup in its cache files. To verify the accuracy of the cache files, the CrashPlan app periodically synchronizes this information with the information stored at the backup destination.

Problem

Device status shows Synchronizing, but has not completed in enough days that user is receiving a Backup Alert email

Solution

  1. Open the CrashPlan app.
  2. If necessary, sign in to your account.
    • Using your Dartmouth NetID, use the format NetID@dartmouth.edu for the username field. This should then take you to Dartmouth's standard Webauth login window to sig in with NetID and password.
  3. Open CrashPlan Commands using one of the following methods:
    • Double-click the CrashPlan logo in the upper-left corner.
    • Enter the keyboard shortcut for your operating system:
      • Windows: Ctrl+Shift+C
      • Mac: Option+Command+C
      • Linux: Ctrl+Shift+C
  4. Enter the following command and press Enter:deauthorize
    The CrashPlan app closes.

  5. Open the CrashPlan app and sign in.

  6. You will see that Crashplan is again Synchronizing, but this iteration should show the percentage completed, and run to completion so backups can again continue normally.
