Dartmouth Chosen Name - Students

Dartmouth Chosen Name

Dartmouth recognizes that some students wish to identify themselves by a name other than their Legal Name. For this reason, beginning in the fall 2019 term, Dartmouth will enable students to use a “Chosen Name” where possible in the course of their Dartmouth education. They may also indicate their gender identity and pronoun.

Changing your chosen name WILL change your email address.

Other information about the policy can be found here.

How to Set your Chosen Name (incoming students)

You can set a chosen name during the pre-arrival process in DarHub Pre-Arrival.

  1. Use a web browser to go to http://PreArrival.dartmouth.edu.
  2. Login using your Dartmouth ID (also known as NetID) and password and Duo two-factor authentication if prompted.
  3. Navigate to the Additional section and click Chosen Name FAQ and Chosen Name/Student Profile.
    • Please read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) before you edit your student profile.
  4. Update your chosen name, gender, and pronouns. A Chosen Name is the name a student wishes to be known by in the Dartmouth community that is different from a student's Legal Name.
