Core Dartmouth Software

Use the links below to install the core Dartmouth software for incoming students. It is important to note that you will need an active Dartmouth NetID for some of these applications to work once they are installed. 

Some classes may require students to install additional applications. In these instances, the faculty member will let you know the application, and, if Dartmouth provides the software, where to download the software. 

Macintosh Computers

To install the core Dartmouth software on a Macintosh computer:

1. Save the dartapp.pkg file to your computer, entering your Dartmouth NetID and password, if prompted.
2. Navigate to where you downloaded the file, then click Dartapp.pkg to start the installation.
3. Click Continue, then your Macintosh HD, then Continue. 
4. Click Install. 
5. When prompted, enter the password for your computer, then click Install Software. 
6. When the installation is complete, click Close. You will need to restart your computer to complete the installation. 
7. Click Move to Trash then restart your computer.
8. Once your computer restarts, with Finder as the active application (showing in the upper left corner of the window) and Go, then Applications.
9. Double click Managed Software Center. 
10. Click Software from the line of icons found at the top of the Managed Software Center window. 
11. Click Install for each of the applications found on the page to install all the core Dartmouth software. 
    Note: In order to see the progress of the installs, click Updates from the line of icons found at the top of the Managed Software Center window. 

Windows Computers

Installing the core Dartmouth software on a Windows computer is a two-part process: install Microsoft Office; install the other core applications. 

Microsoft Office Installation

1. Follow the instructions found online at https://services.dartmouth.edu/TDClient/KB/ArticleDet?ID=64840. 
   Important: This installation may take several hours to complete. Make sure you have the time and battery for this to complete before you start. 
   Note: If you have a previous version of Microsoft Office on this machine, you should uninstall that before proceeding. 

Other Core Windows Installation

1. Save the DartmouthStudentSoftware.exe file to your computer. 
2. Navigate to where you downloaded the file, then double click DartmouthStudentSoftware.exe to start the installation. 
3. Click Yes to allow the installer to make changes to your computer. Once the installation window closes, the applications are installed. 
4. Restart your computer.
