Remote Learning Technology Readiness
Required Equipment
- A computer that meets the Dartmouth Minimum Hardware Requirements
- Microphone and camera as required per course
- Most laptops include a built in microphone and camera
- Peripheral equipment as needed (headset, monitors, keyboard, mouse/input device)
Recommended Equipment
- Reliable Internet access with the capability to stream audio and video content
- Zoom recommends 2.5 Mbps for receiving 1080p HD video and 3.0 Mbps for sending 1080p HD video.
- Households with more than one person streaming at a time may need higher speeds. Two simultaneous HD quality streams would need around 6.0 Mbps, and so on.
Recommended Software
Have a Mac? Many software applications can be downloaded from the Dartmouth Software Center.
- Chrome or Firefox - Preferred web browsers for Canvas access
- Zoom - Video conferencing tool used for live class sessions, group work, and collaboration
- GlobalProtect VPN - VPN may be required to access some Dartmouth network resources
- Microsoft Office - Core productivity applications including word processing
- Slack - Communication and collaboration tool used by some courses
Activate your Dartmouth Zoom account
- Go to dartmouth.zoom.us and click Sign In to provision your Dartmouth Zoom account. Enter your Dartmouth NetID, password, and Duo Authentication. Once this step is completed your account is activated. Bookmark this webpage. This is where you can sign in to your account and access other resources.
Remote Learning Readiness Check
- Open Chrome or Firefox and verify that you are able to log into Canvas
- Join a Zoom Test Meeting to familiarize yourself with the Zoom and test your microphone/speakers
