Canvas Learning Management System

Canvas is a web-based tool for teaching, learning, and collaboration. All Dartmouth classes are automatically provisioned with a Canvas site. Canvas integrates with many other teaching and learning tools used at Dartmouth. New features, enhancements and bug fixes are applied to Canvas every three weeks.

• Canvas is developed and hosted by Instructure.

• All Canvas users log into Canvas with their Dartmouth NetID and password.
• Approved guest users need to obtain a Dartmouth NetID and password in order to access Canvas.

Requirements

• Canvas runs on:
  • Windows 7 and newer
  • Mac OS X 10.6 and newer
  • Linux
  • ChromeOS
  • iOS7 and newer
  • Android 4.2 and newer
• Canvas supports the current and first previous major releases of the following browsers:
  • Chrome
  • Firefox  -  Note:  Extended Support Relase (ESR) versions of Firefox are not supported.
  • Flash
  • Edge
  • Safari
  • Internet Explorer 11 will not be completely compatible with Canvas starting July 2018.
• Mobile/Tablet Apps are available for Android and iOS. Find up-to-date information here:

Get Started

• All Dartmouth courses have a Canvas site available to use, and are available to faculty about six weeks prior to the start of the term. To learn more about how to use Canvas effectively, we encourage faculty to contact a learning designer by emailing learning.design.tech@dartmouth.edu. 
• Canvas offers self-help resources and guides and 24x7 live help is accessed by clicking the Help icon in the lower left of the Canvas screen.
• Canvas is upated every three weeks. When there are substantive changes or enhancements, we will include those updates and changes in our Dartmouth Connection Teaching and Learning newsletter (subscribe here).
