msvcr80.dll iTunes Error on Windows

Step-by-Step

You may be getting an error that reads "This application failed to start because msvcr80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". This started appearing with iTunes update 11.1.4. To resolve this you need to:

  1. Using the Programs and Features control panel uninstall the following in this order:
    1. iTunes
    2. Apple Software Update
    3. Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    4. Bonjour
    5. Apple Application Support
  2. Restart your computer

If you choose to reinstall iTunes, you can do so by:

  1. Downloading the latest version from: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
  2. Run the iTunes installation as an Administrator (Right-click the downloaded installer and select Run as Administrator.)

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis.
