OneDrive for Business Macintosh High CPU usage

OneDrive for Business Preview (version 15.3) for Macintosh OS X.

Cause

OneDrive for Business Preview is still a beta client and may contain issues as Microsoft continues to work on the application.

Details

The problem is OneDrive taking up a high percentage of CPU usage. Users will also notice computer fan will be on and working very fast (noisy).

  1. At system startup a error dialog will appear, "A problem occurred while accessing the Office Document Cache Do you want to repair the problem?". If answered Yes, this opens the Microsoft Upload Center. Using the preferences to empty the Office Document Cache has no effect on the problem.
  2. If also using Outlook for Mac (preview version 15.8), the high CPU usage and loud fan issue may be seen with application instead.
  3. In either case, quitting the application resolves the high CPU usage and fan issue.
