How to Update Bookmarks in Popular Web Browsers

Before You Begin

Browsers may use the term bookmark or favorite, but they mean the same thing. It is simply a shortcut way to quickly access the web address of a site so you can navigate to it quickly again in the future.

Steps

For Windows and macOS web browser specific steps how to clear cookies and cache select a link below to jump to instructions for that browser:

Google Chrome

  1. On your computer, open Chrome
  2. From the top-right corner, select the 3 vertical dots, then Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager
  1. Find the bookmark you wish to update
  2. Right-click the bookmark, or select the 3 vertical dots to the right of it, and select Edit
  3. Change the URL field to be the new address for the bookmark
  4. Select Save
  5. You're done! The bookmark is now updated to the new URL you entered.

These instructions were taken from a machine running Windows 10 Version 22H2 using Chrome Version 114.0.5735.134 (Official Build) (64-bit).

Mozilla Firefox

  1. On your computer, open Firefox
  2. From the top-right corner, select the 3 horizontal lines and then select Bookmarks
  1. Find the bookmark you wish to update
  2. Right-click the bookmark and select Edit Bookmark...
  3. Change the URL field to be the new address for the bookmark
  4. Select Save
  5. You're done! The bookmark is now updated to the new URL you entered.

Safari

  1. On your computer, open Safari and click on the Sidebar button.
  2. At the bottom of the left column, select Bookmarks
  3. Find the bookmark you wish to update and Control-click or Right-click the bookmark, and then select Edit Address
  4. Change the URL to be the new address for the bookmark and click Done
  5. The bookmark is now updated to the new URL you entered and you can close the Sidebar.
