Dartmouth ITC is upgrading how Claude accounts are created and removed for faculty, staff and classes per faculty request, moving from a manual process to automatic provisioning. This change requires a maintenance window on the night of August 17 into August 18, during which Claude may be intermittently unavailable.
What's Changing
Claude access is moving from just-in-time provisioning to SCIM based provisioning. This change allows ITC to offer Claude Code and Cowork more broadly to faculty and requested courses, as well as staff. No action is needed on your part to prepare for this change. Shortly after this change, Claude Code and Code Cowork request forms will be available.
If you need access to any projects, chats, settings, or outputs from Claude that night or early the next day, we recommend copying and pasting them into a notepad or Word document that you can utilize with Chat.Dartmouth.edu or other appropriate solution as there is currently not a Claude export available in our instance.
Scheduled Downtime
ITC will implement this update starting at 5 pm on August 17 into August 18. Claude may be intermittently unavailable during this window while the new provisioning system comes online. You will receive account cannot be found or this feature is not available for all features.
What to Do
- Check status.dartmouth.edu for real time updates during the maintenance window.
- If you experience issues with Claude after the status page marks the maintenance as complete, please submit a ticket so ITC can take a look.
