Unity Client workaround for random crashes

Unity Client users have been experiencing random crashes when opening documents since approximately March 20. This is due to a bug in an automatic update pushed by Microsoft to a Microsoft Edge plugin. Unity Client depends on this plugin to display documents in pop-up-style windows. Because this is a Microsoft bug, neither Dartmouth nor Hyland Software is able to provide a fix. If you are experiencing these crashes, please try the following workarounds:

If experiencing crashes when opening documents in Workflow:

  1. Go to File > User Options
  2. Choose Workflow from the options on the left
  3. Uncheck "Automatically select the first item in the inbox"
  4. Click "Save"
  5. Go to File > Re-launch Client. The changes will take effect after Unity Client restarts.

If experiencing crashes when importing documents:

  1. Go to File > User Options
  2. Choose Document Import from the options on the left
  3. Uncheck "Open Document After Import" and "Enable Automatic Preview of Imported Files"
  4. Click "Save"
  5. Go to File > Re-launch Client. The changes will take effect after Unity Client restarts.
