About Email
As soon as you become affiliated with the College, a Dartmouth Gmail account is automatically created for you.
Email addresses are the full name with periods between each name followed by @Dartmouth.edu.
Dartmouth email is referred to by many names on campus: Blitzmail, Blitz, BWA, etc. These are all referring to the same email system.
How to Access Your Email
There are several ways you can access your Dartmouth Gmail account:
-
- Download the Gmail mail app on your iOS or Android phone.
- Once installed, open the app and enter your full Dartmouth email.
- You'll be prompted to sign in using your NetID and password.
- Use the default mail app on your phone.
- Configure an email application to point to your Google account. See Check Gmail on Other Email Clients. (Note: requires IMAP).
Since much of our communication will travel via email, we want to be sure you’re connected. Please be in touch with any concerns.
Important Notes
- You can use Google Calendar if you wish, but you may need to use Office 365 for calendaring with other Dartmouth faculty and staff. See Using Gmail for Email and Office 365 for Calendar for instructions on doing calendaring.
- If you decide to move your email inbox to Office 365, you will need to manually move any content that you wish to preserve.
- Best practice for accessing Gmail: Google highlights important security information regarding messages you've received in the native Gmail interface (via your web browser) or the official Google Gmail app on your mobile devices. Since this security information will not be available in 3rd party email clients (Mac Mail, Outlook, etc), we strongly recommend users access their email via Google's official site or tools.
Email Extras
Dartmouth Directory Manager (also known as DartDM) allows you to make a few changes to your email account.
- Email Delivery Options
- You can forward to a personal email and all email will not be saved in your Dartmouth mailbox
- If you'd like to forward to a personal email but keep a copy in your Dartmouth mailbox, you can forward your mail from the settings within Gmail.
- Email Aliases
- You can create up to 2 email aliases. These are not listed in the Dartmouth Directory but you can give them out to friends, employers, etc.
