Multi-Factor Authentication Requirement for Microsoft 365 Admin Center Access

Summary

Dartmouth College now requires multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all users accessing the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to enhance security. Users must configure MFA on CyberArk-managed accounts using an approved authenticator like Duo Security. Access will be blocked until MFA setup is complete.

Body

Overview

Microsoft has enforced a new security policy requiring multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all users accessing the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. In response, Dartmouth College has implemented this requirement for all administrative accounts.

This change is designed to strengthen the security of administrative access and reduce the risk of unauthorized entry into critical systems.

Scope

This policy applies to all Dartmouth College faculty, staff, and IT administrators who access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Policy

  • MFA is required for all users accessing the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
  • Privileged accounts must be enrolled in MFA to maintain access to the Admin Center.
  • Access to the Admin Center will be restricted until MFA is successfully configured for affected accounts.
  • Dartmouth College mandates the use of an approved authenticator, such as Duo Security, to comply with this MFA requirement.
  • A separate knowledge article is available to guide users through the process of enrolling an account in Duo MFA.
