Software Center – Updates (SCCM)

Software Center Updates tab is the second tab in Software Center. The Updates tab is where updates are delivered for the operating system, Microsoft Office, and anti-virus updates. Updates are deployed monthly and are required. This means updates will be installed automatically and users only need to respond to reboot notifications. Updates are not complete until a requested reboot is performed. It is important to perform this required reboot as soon as possible.

 

Applies to

  • Dartmouth Staff, Faculty
  • Windows operating system

Requirements

  • Devices must be inside the Dartmouth network, connected via ethernet or wireless (Eduroam)
  • or outside the Dartmouth network with an active VPN connection

 

Layout Options

Layout options allows you to change how updates are displayed. These options are typically not used because the number of periodic updates is short. You should be able to see all updates in the display list.

  • All updates will download and install automatically.
  • Updates install silently in the background while you work, only prompting if reboot is required.
  • If updates show a status of “Past Due”, they will eventually install. You can force these to install immediately by clicking the “Install All” button.
