Linux

Debian-based and RedHat-based operating systems using NetworkManager are supported.  Other systems may work, but have not been tested.

A directory ~/.joinnow/ will be created.  This contains your certificate files.  Do not delete these files or this directory.

Using a GUI application (such as nm-connection-editor or those built-in to your operating system's Settings or Preferences application) to edit the NetworkManager configuration is not recommended as they will silently remove settings configured by JoinNow.  If you need to edit the settings of the NetworkManager configuration, please use nmcli.

  1. Go to wifi.dartmouth.edu in your web browser and click the "Connect to eduroam" button.  You will be redirected to the SecureW2 JoinNow setup page.
Note, only Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Edge are supported.  Other browsers may be incompatible with the JoinNow process.  If you use another browser, you must set your system’s default browser to one that is supported before running the JoinNow software.  You may set your default browser back once JoinNow has completed.

  2. Click the JoinNow button.

  3. The SecureW2_JoinNow.run file will begin to download.

  4. Open a Terminal window and navigate to the directory where the SecureW2_JoinNow.run file was saved.
Set the execute bit on the downloaded file by running the chmod +x ./SecureW2_JoinNow.run command.
    Then, run the ./SecureW2_JoinNow.run file.

  5. The file will verify its integrity and prompt you to open a web browser to sign in to Dartmouth's WebSSO.  Press Enter at the prompt to launch the web browser.

  6. Log in using your NetID and password.
If installing on a shared computer, please log in with the appropriate Department or Service Account NetID.
If installing on someone else's machine, have that person login to WebSSO using their own NetID.  Never use your NetID to login for another person.

  7. Complete Duo 2-Factor Authentication.

  8. SecureW2 will be granted access and proceed with generating a certificate in the Terminal.

  9. JoinNow proceeds to install your certificate and eduroam profile within NetworkManager.  If you are in range of the eduroam network, your device should automatically connect to it.  Otherwise, type "Continue" and press Enter.

  10. You may now delete the SecureW2_JoinNow.run file.
