Office 2016 for Mac: OneDrive files open in "read-only" or "enable edit mode"

When opening a file in Office 2016 for Mac application (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), file opens in read-only or enable edit mode. In open app, Office365 account is not signed into. Signing into account generates error message - Another account from the same organization is already signed in. To switch accounts, please go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain access, clear all entries including the 'Office' keyword, and then restart app.

Step-by-Step

To resolve this issue, use the Keychain Access app to delete any password entries that contain "Office." To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Start the Keychain Access app.
  2. In the Search field, type Office.
  3. Delete any entries that are found. Note: You should find between two and six entries.
  4. Exit the Keychain Access app, and then try to sign in to Office 2016 for Mac again.
