How to Create a Shortcut Windows 10

Step-by-Step

  1. Right-click any blank place on the Windows 10 Desktop.
  2. Choose New > Shortcut.
  3. Type in the path to the server you would like to connect to, eg \\OF_Provost\(name of share)
  4. Click Next, give the shortcut a name, and click Finish.
  5. Right Click the shortcut and choose "Pin To Start" if you would like to put it in your start menu
  6. Right Click and choose "Pin to Quick Access" if you would like to connect using File Explorer

You can also create a shortcut in your search bar.

  1. In your search bar, type in the path to the server you would like to connect to, eg \\OF_Provost\(name of share)
  2. Click on the share you would like.
    1. Right click and pin to start or quick access. (This will give you a shortcut to the top share.)
    2. Click the share and any folder you would like to create a shortcut to then right click and pin to start or quick access.

To create a shortcut to an application in your applications list for all users:

  1. Go to c:\program data\microsoft\windows\start menu.
  2. Copy the application icon in that folder.
