Finding Answers in the Knowledge Base

Tags welcome

Knowledge Base articles are searchable via Google but also with the Dartmouth Services Portal.

Using the Knowledge Base Search

  1. Click Knowledge Base in the top navigation bar.
  2. Click Search in the sub-navigation bar.
  3. In the Search field, enter keywords related to the information you're searching for. This can include system or technology.
    • If you're looking for a number or an exact phrase, use quotations around those search terms (e.g. "365" or "eduroam wireless network"). The quotations make the search look for articles that have those numbers or that exact phrase. Without the quotation marks, numbers aren't respected as a phrase to search on.  And without quotations, multiple keywords searches will return all articles with any of the keywords instead articles with all the words in the correct order.
  4. Click the green Search button.  A list of results that contain the keywords will appear.
    • To refine the search even more, click the drop-down arrow in the Category field and select a category.

Using the Global Search

In the banner of the Dartmouth Services Portal is a Global Search feature.  This will allow you to search the entire site, both Knowledge Base and Services, for a topic.

  1. Click the dropdown to the left of the Global Search box and choose Knowledge Base from the dropdown.
  2. Enter a keywords related to the service you're searching for.
  3. Hit Enter or the Magnifying Glass to search.  A list of results that contain the keywords will appear.
NOTE: A knowledge base search will only return up to 300 articles. So, if you're not finding what you're looking for and the number of articles found is 300, you may need to refine your search criteria.
