Issue
When Logging into Duo in a browser, there is a cached username and password that no longer work
Environment
This article applies to browsers that have saved cached passwords, in Windows and Mac's.
Cause
This happens when logging into a website in a browser the end user accepts the prompt to save the credentials to the website and then they change their password.
Resolution
It is recommended that the end user sets the prompt to save their Duo Login for 30 days on the Duo log in and not through the browser. To clear the login cache in supported browsers:
Firefox
- Select the Menu button located at the upper-right corner of the window, then choose Options.
- Select Privacy & Security on the left pane.
- Uncheck ask to save logins and passwords for websites
- Click the Saved Logins… button.
- Select the web site you wish to remove in the list.
- For individual site passwords, select the one you wish to delete, then select Remove. To clear everything, You can select Remove All to delete all saved passwords. Select Close when you’re done.
Chrome
- Click the Chrome Menu on the browser toolbar.
- Select Settings.
- Click Show advanced settings.
- Click Manage saved passwords in the “Passwords and forms” section to see a list of all the usernames and passwords that have been saved.
- Windows, Linux, and Chrome devices users: In the Passwords dialog that appears, use your mouse to hover over the site whose password you’d like to remove and click the X that appears on the right.
- Mac users: You can remove your passwords in the Keychain Access dialog that appears.
Internet Explorer
- Open the Tools Menu
- Select Internet Options
- Click Content
- Under AutoComplete, click Settings
- Click on Manage Passwords
- Click on the Web Credentials Manager
- Click on the drop down arrow by the web site you want to remove the password
- Click on Remove
Microsoft Edge
- Click on the Microsoft Edge Menu on the top right.
- Click on the Settings
- Under General click on the Passwords and autofill
- Click on Manage Passwords
- Remove websites that you want to remove by clicking on the X by the site
- Go back to the passwords page and turn the Save passwords to Off
Safari
- Open the Safari Menu
- Select Preferences
- Switch to the Autofill tab
- Click the Edit button for Usernames and Passwords
- Delete the entries that corresponds with the sites you want to remove
