Outlook folder appears empty even though it says there are unread messages in it. Users will see a "We didn't find anything to show here" message when clicking the folder that shows unread messages.

Environment

This article applies to users running the Outlook 2013 client or newer, in a Windows 10 environment. 

Cause

A View in Outlook can become unresponsive. There is no specific reason as to why this happens.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you need to reset the View in Outlook. Here is how you do this:

  1. Open Outlook and select the folder that you are having issues with
  2. Click the View tab on the Outlook ribbon
  3. Under the Current View section, click Reset View.  
  4. Note: If you do not see the Reset View option, you may need to expand the Outlook ribbon. You can do this by clicking the down arrow found all the way to the right of the Ribbon.
