Deleting "run-away" Outlook calendar event appearing in a day

Issue

Hood Museum of Art room calendar contained one event that repeated itself in a single day, over +1000 duplicated events. Users could not delete these repeated events, could not add new events or edit existing events. Could not modify events in one single day - March 7, 2018, but could add, modify, delete events in prior and future days.

Environment

This article applies to Outlook 365/Outlook 2016 calendar.

Cause

Not known. Original event may have been created in IOS mobile device calendar app and became corrupted during sync with Exchange.

Resolution

1. Request elevated Outlook privileges from administrator.

2. Open Outlook 2016 > Calendar > add Room calendar.

3. Select Room calendar > Change View > List.

4. Note: Calendar items will be sorted by Start Date, then by single events and recurring event. Calendar items can be sorted by headings list - SUBJECT, LOCATION, START, END, RECURRENCE PATTERN. Select appropriate sort item.

5. To delete a range of Calendar items, click on first entry to be deleted. Press Shift key and click last entry to be deleted.

6. Press Delete.

Click the Change View > Chose Calendar to return to default calendar view.
