Step-by-Step
Before you begin, you will need to know your computer’s operating system. To find this information, click the Apple menu, then About this Mac.
Setting up a new printer is a three-step process: download the driver, install it, then configure the printer. If you like, you can also set printing presets once it is set up.
Note: If your computer is enrolled in DAP or is part of the CAP program, the common Konica Minolta drivers should already be installed. Try adding the printer first, and if the correct driver is not available, go through the steps below to install it.
Download the Driver
Go to http://onyxweb.mykonicaminolta.com/OneStopProductSupport/
Search for the model number of your copier (i.e. Bizhub c364e). Note: Searching without the letter-suffix on the model will sometimes yield better results (e.g., searching for "368U" will not find a driver but "368" will).
- Click on the "Drivers" tab.
- Scroll down and choose your operating system.
- If there is a choice, be sure to download drivers for "Letter", as opposed to "A4".
Install the Driver
- Double click the downloaded file. It will unzip to your downloads folder.
- Double click the .pkg installer and accept the defaults.
- Enter your computer’s password when prompted.
Configure the Printer
When the driver is installed, you will need to install and configure the printer.
- Click the Apple menu, then System preferences, then Printers & Scanners.
- To add the new printer, click the + sign on the left.
- Choose the IP tab with the globe icon:
- In the Address field, type the printer’s full name (e.g. printername.dartmouth.edu).
- In the Protocol field choose Line Printer Daemon - LPD
- In the Name field, enter what you would like to call the printer.
- The drivers may or may not fill in next to Use. If they don’t, click the box next to Use and choose Select Software.
- Scroll or search to find your printer model, highlight it and click OK. It will fill in the driver name.
- Click Add.
- If you know what they are, choose the printer’s installable options. If you are unsure, you can leave them blank and edit them later. Click OK to complete the setup.
Set Up Printing Presets
Set up printing presets to quickly enable printing features such as double-sided printing, color printing, etc. The printer defaults to color printing. Do the following to set a preset and then to set as the default for black and white printing:
- Open Word
- Click File > Print to open the print window
- Choose the Konica Minolta copier next to Printer
- Click Copies & Pages – choose Quality from the list
- Under Select Color, change the setting to Gray scale
- Click next to Presets and choose Save Current Settings as Preset…
- Name the Preset (i.e. B&W Printing) then click OK.
- Print a page using that preset.
- Click Cancel, then return to the Print menu (click File > Print).
- Choose the B&W printing preset from the list and press Option and Click. This should save this setting as the default. (You may need to set the printer as the default printer first.)
To set single or double sided presets, go to the Copies & Pages menu and choose Layout/Finish.
Known Issues (as of 2/27/2024)
We are aware that there are some issues with Konica Minolta drivers on newer versions of the MacOS, particularly around using presets and features involving account track and secure print options. Specifically, while options such as 1-sided printing can be preserved in a preset, forcing grayscale on a color printer or configuring secure print and account tracking features do not get saved with the preset reliably. This means that those options will need to be selected each time a document is printed.
