- The sender email address (boris@unhfree.net) and reply-to email address (fbiheadquarterswashingtondc990@gmail.com) do not match the name of the sender "Kash Patel" or the expected FBI email domain.
- Legitimate emails from the FBI will end in ".gov". Be wary of any emails claiming to be from the FBI that use a different domain.
- All of the recipients of the email were BCC'd, a common pattern when attackers send similar attacks to many recipients.
- The body of the email message is offering something that is too good to be true: a fund of $50.5 million.
If you receive an email similar to this one, it is recommended that you take the following actions:
- Do not reply to the message
- Mark the message as spam or junk
- Forward the message to phishing@dartmouth.edu
- Block the sender
