Phishing Scam 2024.10.08 - "Urgent" Email Asking to Confirm Phone Number

  • October 8, 2024 at approximately 11:40am

Phishing Method

  • Social engineering email sent to Dartmouth alumni, claiming to be from senior leadership.
  • The email asks alumni to confirm cell phone number urgently.
  • The sender's name showed up with the actual name of someone from senior leadership but with the email address ktt189265@gmail.com

User Response

  • Mark the message as spam (which reports the spam/scam to Gmail),
  • Block the sender (so you don’t get another message like this) 
  • Do not reply to the message 
  • Forward the message to phishing@dartmouth.edu, and
  • Share what happened with officers/classmates so they know how easy it is to be scammed if you’re not paying attention.
