You may be granted permission to send email on behalf of another user or Dartmouth mail account, such as a departmental account. When granted “Send on Behalf of” permission, you won’t have direct access to the mailbox account to receive messages, but you will be able to send message as though you were the owner of the mailbox. Your messages will be marked as “[Your Name] on behalf of [Other Mailbox Name]”. The following describes how to configure Outlook to perform this action.

By default, the From field will not be displayed when you compose a message.
- Compose a New mail message.
- At the bottom of the message window, below the style toolbar, click the “…” at the end of the actions toolbar (where you see Send, Discard, Attach, etc.)
- Click on Show From to expose the From field at the top of the message.
- Click the From button and select the delegate account OR click Other email address…
- Begin typing the alternate email address and select it when it appears from the list of choices.
- Once selected, compose your message and send as you normally would.
Outlook for Windows
By default, the From field will not be displayed when you compose a message.
- To display the From field click on the Options tab and select From in the Show Fields section. Now the From field will be displayed when composing a message in the future.
- When composing a message click on the From in the drop-down box and select Other E-Mail Address.
- Click on From.
- Choose More columns and make sure Global Address List is selected. Search for the address you want to send from and click OK.Once you have entered the Alternate Email Address you would like to use and click OK.
- The next time you compose a message the Alternate Email Address will be available from the From Drop Down Box.
Outlook for Mac
By default, the From field will not be displayed when you compose a message. The From field will only be displayed after you set up a delegate for your account.
- Navigate to the Outlook menu on the upper left-hand side of the screen and select Settings.
- Select the Accounts option.
- Select the Advanced button.
- A new window will pop up that has three sections. Navigate to the center option labeled Delegates. On the bottom half of the pop-up, there will be a section titled Open these additional mailboxes:. Select the “+” sign to add a new address that your account can send from.
- A new box will pop up. Search the directory to find the address you wish to send from. (If the address is hidden from the directory, you will be unable to set up your Outlook for Mac to be able to send from the address.) Select the address and click the Add button.
- The next time you compose a message the Alternate Email Address will be available in a drop-down menu located in the From field.
