Email Security Improvements

What is changing?

To better protect your email, you will soon need to use Duo two-factor authentication (2FA), in addition to your Dartmouth user name and password to log in to your email. Not all email applications support using Duo authentication, so you may need to use a different application or update your current application to the latest version.

Why is Dartmouth making this change?

With hackers, data breaches, and scams being a constant threat, Dartmouth wants to keep data safe and secure. Using two-factor authentication, like Duo, makes it much more difficult for an attacker to steal your credentials and access your accounts and data. Your personal and work data is valuable, so please helps us keep it secure.

When is this change happening?

Dartmouth is implementing changes to improve our security every day.  We already require Duo to access your email via the web.  We plan to roll out Duo for email applications on your computer, laptop or mobile devices starting summer 2019.

What should I do to make sure I am ready for these improvements?

  1. Check the list below to make sure the application you are using on your computer, laptop, or mobile device is compatible with Duo.
  2. If the application you are using is not compatible or not on the list below, please do one of the following:
    • Open a service request with the ITC Service Desk for assistance: Open a request or call 603.646.2999.
    • Upgrade on your own (please see information in Related Articles to the right).
    • Enroll in DAP, Dartmouth's Device Assurance Program (please see information in Related Articles to the right).
