CrashPlan - Pause option is not working

There is a known issue with the “Pause” feature in the CrashPlan 6.8.7 client.

This issue is fixed in version 7 of the client, to use version 7, you must be running OS X 10.12 or newer.

Problem: Pause feature not working

  • Selecting to “Pause All Backups” (e.g. 1 hour, 4 hours, 1 day) from the menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows) doesn’t  activate pause or change the backup status.   (Sometimes “pause" works using the menu bar/system tray, but not reliably…)

Work around:
As a work around, please use the following steps, and this also allows you to select the pause option you want (e.g. 1 hour, 4 hours, 1 day)

  • Login to CrashPlan application.
  • Leave application open, and then from the CrashPlan menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows), select your Pause option.
  • You will see the status change in the CrashPlan application to Pause.
  • Quit to CrashPlan application.

You can also select to Pause (and resume) from within the CrashPlan application itself (Tools menu on Windows; File menu on Mac), but that defaults to 1 hour only.
