Create a Yammer Group


A Yammer group includes an announcement page, a library for storing files, notebook and planner.

To create a Yammer group:

  1. Log into
  2. Click the Yammer tile. If it doesn't appear, click Explore all your apps, then click Yammer from the bottom of the list.
  3. Click Create a Group from the left hand navigation column.
  4. In the Group name field, enter a group name that briefly captures the spirit of the group.
  5. In the Group description field, enter a detailed description of the group to help others understand its purpose. This description will appear under the name of the group at the top of each page.
  6. In the Group members field, enter the full names of the people you want added to this group.
  7. In the Who can view conversations and post messages field, select Public if you want everyone at Dartmouth to be able to see this information, or Private if you want to limit access to this information to only those people who have been specified as members.
  8. If you want people outside of Dartmouth to be able to participate in your yammer group, click Advanced Settings. Set the Which organizations can participate in this group field to External. It is important to note that people need to have a Yammer license in order to participate, whether it comes from Dartmouth or some other institution. 
  9. Click Create Group. You'll see your newly created group in the left navigation pane. 

To add members to a Yammer group:

  1. To add members to a previously created Yammer group, within Yammer select the group. 
  2. Click Members from the right hand column. 
  3. Type the full name of the person(s) you want to add.
