Alumni NetID FAQ

What is a NetID?

  • Like a user name, a NetID is a permanent, personal identifier that is unique to each individual and is used to log in to most Dartmouth systems, including some used by alumni.
  • All current faculty, staff, alumni and students of Dartmouth have a Dartmouth Account with a corresponding NetID.

Will I need to log on with my NetID every time?

  • Yes. Each time you access a secure system you will need to log on using your NetID and password.
  • Once you log on to one system or application, your credentials will seamlessly move through different applications without requiring you to log in again as long as you continue to use the same browser session.

What type of password do I need for my NetID?

  • Passwords must be at least 8 characters in length.
  • Password strength is indicated while setting your password at myaccount.dartmouth.edu.
  • Use of special characters, numbers and a mix of capital and lowercase letters make for a stronger password. 

What if I don’t know my password?

  • You can use the self-service password reset process at myaccount.dartmouth.edu to set or reset your password.
  • You'll be prompted for your name or NetID and then be given options for verifying your identity.
  • Once your identity is verified by making use of one of the options, you will be able to set or reset your password.

What if I have an assistant I want to serve as my proxy for Dartmouth’s online services?

  • The Dartmouth Alumni Help Desk provides alumni with an authorization form that you and your proxy can sign.
  • The authorization form will allow the proxy to use the login credentials on your behalf to access all systems to which you have access.
  • Proxy access cannot be provided for individual applications.
