To access a database remotely using FileMaker Pro 13, the database must first be setup to allow sharing for FileMaker clients. Once that is done, there are two options for connecting:

Use the Network File Path field:

  1. In FileMaker Pro, from the File menu select to Open Remote…
  2. In the Open Remote File window, in the Network File Path field, enter

    fmnet:/database IP address/database name

    example: fmnet:/

    then click Open.

  3. You will be prompted to login, which you can do using the Admin account for the database or other account you have set to allow via remote sharing with a client.

Use the Favorite Hosts option:

  1. In the Open Remote File window, change the view to Favorite Hosts.
  2. Click the Add button.
  3. In the Edit Favorite Hosts window, enter:

Host’s Internet Address = database IP address
Host’s Name = FMPro Server   (or anything you want really, it is just a label)
  4. Click Save. Back in the Open Remote File window you will see the server listed under Hosts, and the database listed under Available Files.
  5. Click on the database name, then click Open.
