Switch GreenPrint from Color to Black and White on Macs

Greenprint will default to print in color if you are using one of the three color printers in the Greenprint system. To change your default so that you always print in black and white, and don't get assessed the higher charge for printing in color, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Microsoft Word.
  2. Click File then Print to open the printer window.
  3. In the Printer field, select Greenprint-KM.
  4. Click Copies & Pages then Printer Features from the list that appears.
  5. Click General in the Features Set field, then select Finishing Options from the list that appears.
  6. In the Select Color field, chose Gray Scale.
  7. In the Presets field select Save Current Settings as Preset.
  8. Name the preset something to remind you this is the black and white default (i.e. B&W Printing) then click OK.
  9. Click Print. The Greenprint window will pop up. Enter your NetID, password and job description and send the document to the Greenprint queue. You do NOT need to release it if you don't need this document printed.

From now on, when you select to print a document, the Preset field should come up as the name you gave it in step 8 and you should be printing in black and white. If you want to switch back to color printing, simply change the Preset field to Default Settings.
