There is no software required to use the registration system. Registration of computers is completed through the use of a web browser.

You must be affiliated with the college (faculty, student, and staff) and be able to provide Dartmouth credentials (NetID and password) to register.

Anyone attempting to plug a computer into the wired Ethernet campus network will need to register the computer in order to use the Ethernet network. If you have a VPN connection active, disconnect from that first.

  1. After connecting to an active Ethernet port (usually designated by a blue tab or dot), open a web browser. You will be prompted to register your computer via the Dartmouth Network Registration web page.
  2. Use the Description field to identify the computer, whether it be a personal, lab, or departmental computer (i.e. John's laptop, SmithLab 1, Art History iMac), then click Continue.
  3. Enter your Dartmouth NetID and password, then click Login.
  4. You should see a web page confirming "Registration Complete". Wait 2 minutes for the registration to finish or reboot your computer.

If you have a problem registering a computer, contact the IT Service Desk at 603-646-2999, send email to, or contact your department's IT support office.

To comply with the terms of the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), Dartmouth implemented access controls for users connecting to the campus network. Users must be affiliated with Dartmouth College in order to use the Ethernet (wired) network. Only authorized ITS staff will have access to the registration data. This information will only be shared outside of the authorized group when required by law enforcement.

Each user can access and manage their own registration data at

There is no limit to the number of computers a user may register.

Computers that have applied for and been given a static IP addresses are already registered (i.e. desktops or servers that provide a specific service).

In general, visitors to campus should use “Dartmouth Public” on our wireless system or a public computer in the Library to gain access to the Internet. However, a capability does exist to register campus guests (on Dartmouth-related business) onto the wired network for short periods of time. If a guest needs to access the wired network, any valid Dartmouth user can register the computer for a guest visitor. In the Description field for the registration the Dartmouth user should enter the "Guest" along with the guest's name.
